Kershaw Knives began in Portland, Oregon in 1974. Owner Pete Kershaw founded the company based on his own designs after he left Gerber. In 1977, Kershaw Knives fell under the ownership of Japanese KAI group, where it remains today. In 2003, Kershaw Knives production facility opened in Tualatin, Oregon.
